Forklift training in and around Kempton Park generally takes 3 to 5 days for novices and 1 day for renewals. Courses cover SAQA Unit Standard 242974, comprising 20% theory and 80% practical.
Course Requirements & Details
Before starting your training, you will need to meet a few basic requirements:

- Age & Qualifications: Typically requires you to be at least 18 years old with basic communication and mathematical literacy (NQF Level 3).
- Medical Fitness: You will need to pass an eyesight test (like an Orthorator test) and a depth perception and hand-eye coordination assessment.
- Licensing: For renewals, you must present a previous certificate that has not been expired for more than 90 days.
Core Competencies Taught
Once enrolled, you will be assessed and trained according to nationally recognized SAQA standards, which include:
- Conducting pre- and post-operation equipment inspections
- Handling, loading, and safely storing freight using attachments.
- Operating the equipment while understanding the manufacturer’s specifications and weight capacities.
