driving license permits you to drive light motor vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) of 3,500 kg or less, such as sedans, SUVs, and bakkies. The K53 practical test involves a pre-trip inspection, a yard test (parking/maneuvers), and a real-world road test.
The K53 practical driving test is divided into two main parts:
- The Yard Test: Assesses your vehicle handling and parking skills. It consists of the pre-trip inspection, alley docking (left and right), parallel parking, a three-point turn, and starting on an incline.
- The Road Test: A 20 to 40-minute drive on public roads to evaluate your observation, signaling, adherence to traffic signs/rules, and overall defensive driving.
Requirements & Preparation
To take the Code 8 test, you must have a valid Learner’s License. Depending on your preference and training, you can take the practical test in either a manual or automatic vehicle.
