ORDER PICKER
An order picker is a vital warehouse professional and the specialized equipment they use to retrieve and assemble customer orders from inventory. Workers in this role use barcode scanners, manual trolleys, or elevating lift trucks to collect products accurately and prep them for dispatch.
Key Responsibilities
- Locating Stock: Using warehouse management systems (WMS) or order lists to find specific bin locations.
- Fulfilling Orders: Picking precise quantities and verifying product codes so shipments are accurate.
- Equipment Use: Safely maneuvering trolleys, pallet jacks, or elevating fork trucks (sometimes called cherry pickers).
- Safety Compliance: Utilizing fall-protection harnesses and safety vests when using elevated lifting equipment
The Machine (The Order Picker)- High Reach: Can elevate operators vertically up to \(4.6 \text{ m}\) (low-level) or over \(10 \text{ m}\) (high-level) to access racks.
- Safety Mandatory: Operators tether themselves using a safety harness while aloft, and the machine frequently operates on wire guides in narrow aisles.
